Planning

How receptive were your students to the topics we discussed? Did they brainstorm topics of their own? What does your final list of research cover?

I took the students to the library for one class period. Mrs. Booksmith had all the resources pulled and on a cart, which made researching much simpler for the students. She also showed them the on-line magazine program and the students found additional information. I'm going to give them time in class to use Smart Ideas to map their papers. Can you give them time in your class to finish mapping. I'm sure they will need a couple of periods.

I'll E-Mail you the topics my students are going to research. I handed out the requirements and there were a few moans and groans, but not too bad.

Do you think four days in the library will be enough for your students?

Four days will be adequate. A couple of students may take a little longer. After they begin the note cards, they may have to go back for biographical information and for additional support. I have asked Mrs. Booksmith to check out the books for my classroom when the students return them. It will save time if the students need additional information, if the books are in the classroom.

How to you handle those issues?

I am collecting questions from my students that they want to ask your class. When should we get started on the student blog?

I have thought alot about the controversial topics that we will be discussing and I want to make sure that the students have the needed "tools" to make this a positive experience. I am going to lead a discussion on the importance of being sensitive to moral and ethical differences students may have. We will brainstorm, as a class, what types of things might influence how a student feels about these topics. ie Religion Any other suggestions?
